March 2011 - Interactive visualization of Earthquakes

Lars Grammel from the Chisel group has created an interactive visualization of earthquakes with 1,000 or more deaths since 1900 using Choosel components. Check it out!

January 2011 - We're looking for co-ops for this summer!

The CHISEL group is looking for research assistants to develop research prototypes using Java and web technologies.

October 2010 - Post doctoral positions available

Two new positions are available for post doctoral researchers, one in the area of Next Generation Ontology Authoring Tools and the other in Social Media and Software Engineering.

April 2010 - Craigdarroch Silver Medal for Excellence in Research

Computer scientist Margaret-Anne Storey (pictured above), who designs software that helps people organize, analyze and better comprehend large amounts of information, is the recipient of the 2010 Craigdarroch Silver Medal for Excellence in Research. UVic's annual Craigdarroch Awards honour research excellence at the university.

November 2007 - ISWC 2007 Conference

Sean Falconer was presented with the best student paper award at the recent International Semantic Web Conference in Busan, Korea. The paper, written with Margaret-Anne (Peggy) Storey, is entitled "A cognitive support framework for ontology mapping".

May 2007 - IBM Centers for Advanced Studies (CAS) Article

Ian Bull was interviewed recently about his experiences with the IBM Centers for Advanced Studies Fellowship program. Ian was recently named the IBM CAS Toronto Student of the Year for 2006.

April 2007 - Torch: The University of Victoria Alumni Magazine Article

UVic's Torch magazine profiled Mechthild Maczewski's PhD work this month in an article by Mark Vardy called "Kids Online".

March 2007 - Eclipse Podcast

Wayne Beaton from the Eclipse Foundation interviewed Margaret-Anne (Peggy) Storey at EclipseCon 2007. During their conversation, available in this podcast, they discuss the Chisel group's work on Gild, Zest and TagSEA.

October 2006 - CASCON 2006 Conference

At CASCON 2006, Ian Bull's paper entitled "Integrating Dynamic Views Using Model Driven Development" was chosen as the best student paper.

October 2006 - Usability Lab Opens

Our new usability lab opened this month providing facilities and equipment for running user studies on software and technology projects. The lab is funded by the Canada Foundation for Innovation, the British Columbia Knowledge Development Fund, IBM, and the University of Victoria's Faculty of Engineering.

Saturday, December 17, 2005 - National Post Article

Siri Agrell, with the National Post, wrote a story called "Putting it out there" about how today's youth are increasingly willing to share personal information on the Internet. Agrell interviews Mechthild Maczewski, a PhD student with the Chisel group (see page 3).

December 2005 - IBM CAS Faculty Fellow Award

Dr. Margaret-Anne (Peggy) Storey won this year's IBM Centre for Advanced Studies Faculty Fellow Award for her work in promoting Eclipse in academia.

Dr. Margaret-Anne (Peggy) Storey has received a Canada Research Chair in Human Computer Interaction for Software Engineering.
