When you first install DIaMOND, you will be prompted to complete a consent form for participation in the study. The study consists of two phases:
If you consent to participating, you will see no change in your Protégé environment for the first two weeks. During this time, DIaMOND will be monitoring your interactions in order to "learn" about what areas of the ontology you are most intersted in. At the end of the two week period, you will be prompted to upload your logged data. The logged data contains information about the elements within the ontology that are selected and/or edited and in which view the selection/editing occurs. No other information will be logged, and you will be able to view the log file prior to uploading it. This information will be useful to us as a baseline that will allow us to analyze how the highlighting and filtering DIaMOND provides impacts your work practices.
After two weeks, you will notice the DIaMOND menus in the menu bar and in each tab as shown in the manual. At this time, all of DIaMOND's features will be enabled. After DIaMOND has been fully functional for a two week period, you will again be prompted to upload the log file as before. Additionally, you will be asked to complete a short online survey.
Note: DIaMOND also uses the log file to provide the adaptive visualizations, so you don't want to delete it ;).
Important Note when updating Protégé:
There is no reason you cannot update Protégé while participating in the study. You simply need to remove the "ca.uvic.cs.diamond.protege" directory from your current plugins directory, update Protégé, and then move the "ca.uvic.cs.diamond.protege" directory into your new plugins directory.
