Overview
To calculate the user's degree of interest (DOI) within the ontology, we have adapted Mylar, a plugin for the Eclipse technology project to work with Protégé. Mylar's DOI model associates an interest value with each concept in the ontology. When a concept is selected or edited, its DOI value increases. The DOI calculation also contains a decay function which decreases an element's interest value if it has not been selected.
Within Protégé's tabs, a user's DOI over the concepts is visualized using font weight and color, additionally, non-interesting concepts can be filtered to reduce navigational overhead as shown in the figure below.

Three interest levels are supported:
- Non-interesting - concepts the user has not selected or whose DOI value has decayed to zero. Non-interesting concepts are shown in gray above.
- Interesting - concepts that have been selected but whose DOI value falls below a threshold value. Interesting concepts are shown in black above.
- Landmark - concepts that have a high DOI value or that the user has specified as Landmarks. Landmark concepts are shown in black and bold above.
Turning on highlighting and filtering with DIaMOND can be done via DIaMOND's menus.
